Rodrigo Fernandes
Director, ES(D)G – Empowering Sustainable Development Goals
Rodrigo Fernandes is director of ES(D)G (Empowering Sustainable Development Goals) in Bentley Systems, leading the implementation of the company’s sustainability business strategy and initiatives. Rodrigo’s charter is to empower sustainable development goals through Bentley software and services, evangelize Bentley’s handprint, and advocate for a sustainability culture.
In his previous role at Bentley, he worked as a senior consultant and project manager on the Water Infrastructure Team and then as a business development / environmental industry expert for Acceleration Team and Digital Cities.
Working many years in the environmental engineering industry in R&D and the private sector, he also served as an external expert for the Portuguese Ministry of the Sea and for the European Commission where he was also a European Climate Pact Ambassador.
He has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and has designed and managed over 20 European innovation projects on modeling water resources and environmental safety issues, authoring +30 peer-reviewed papers.
Richard J. Vestner
Vice President Industry Solutions Product Advancement, Bentley Systems
Richard J. Vestner is Vice President in the Industry Solutions Product Advancement Unit of Bentley Systems. He is responsible for Bentley’s urban digital twin solutions covering cities and campuses.
Based in Munich, Germany, Richard holds a Dipl.-Ing. and a Dr.-Ing. degree in civil engineering. After his military career, Richard started his professional career as a consultant with his own company. Then he joined a business consultancy for public and corporate real estate management.
During the following eight years he led national and international companies within a German infrastructure engineering group as managing director.
Before joining Bentley in 2020, Richard served as Group Executive Board Member responsible for the EMEA business and Chief Digital Officer for a Danish tech company.
Bernardo Matos
Senior Director, EU Government Relations Bentley Systems
Bernardo Matos is Senior Director EU Government Relations at Bentley Systems. In this role, he leads the company’s engagement toward EU policymakers and various industry groups in Brussels.
With over 16 years of experience in EU affairs, his key objective is to raise awareness on the importance of “going digital” when designing, building, and operating infrastructure – critical to accelerating the green transition. Prior to his role at Bentley, he worked at the European Commission; in a leading Brussels trade association; and for global businesses in the media, telecom, and IT sectors.
A qualified lawyer in Portugal, he has a law degree from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, a post-graduate degree in European studies from the University of Lisbon, and an LL.M. in European Union Law from the College of Europe in Bruges.
Saila Vicente is a Sustainability Manager at Bentley, focusing on sustainable solutions and promoting Bentley’s carbon handprint. She provides subject matter expertise on low-carbon, resilient, and circular approaches within the built environment. She is passionate about developing practical solutions to climate change mitigation for infrastructure.
Prior to her role at Bentley, Saila worked for six years in Finland as a geotechnical designer, project manager, and sustainability consultant, specializing in carbon management and resilient solutions in the built environment. She has also worked in academia in Sweden and Finland, focusing on water engineering and soil management.
Saila has a multidisciplinary background, holding a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, with specializations in Water and Geotechnical Engineering, and a second Master’s degree in Biology (Ecology).
Peter Rummel
Director, Infrastructure Policy Advancement Bentley Systems
Peter Rummel is director, infrastructure policy advancement at Bentley Systems, and works closely with government institutions and associations to develop and execute a vision how infrastructure will lead the way into a green sustainable future. During his over two-decade career he has worked in different functions including technical work, sales, business development, and marketing. After starting in an engineering company with a focus on the exploration of natural resources and environmental engineering, Peter moved to Autodesk as they started to expand their portfolio into the GIS and geospatial industries. He then worked for international software and service provider Man and Machine for five years, ultimately leading the GIS team and geospatial strategy as business development director, Europe. Returning to Autodesk, Peter focused on the integration of a major geospatial technology acquisition, and the partner ecosystem in Central Europe covering the full Autodesk portfolio. He holds an M.A. in geophysics from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
