iTwin Collaboration Workflows | Technology Preview

Real-time collaboration to visualize your project at every phase of the design process.

MicroStation 2024’s iTwin-enabled collaboration workflows unlock new, peer-to-peer collaboration to view, analyze, and synchronize in-progress design files. These new workflows provide detailed, real-time ad-hoc collaboration at every point in the design process.

What does iTwin Collaboration Workflows mean for a MicroStation user?

A digital twin is a virtual representation of real-world entities and processes, synchronized at a specified frequency and fidelity.

An iTwin is Bentley’s evergreen, intelligent digital twin of a physical infrastructure system composed of current, known, and available information.

An iModel is a content repository for engineering data associated with an iTwin.

By utilizing iModels and an iTwin within your design workflows, you can now:

Team Leads vs. Collaboration Users:

Team Leads

Project Team Leads can setup up iTwin Projects and extend invitations to the project for each Collaboration User. To register a new project, Team Leads will need a ProjectWise Validate license. With the project in place, Team Leads can oversee the design efforts of various designers and engineers, streamline feedback loops, identify potential errors sooner, and expedite project delivery with enhanced precision.

Collaboration Users

Collaboration Users are designers and engineers using MicroStation and will need a ProjectWise Engineer license. These workflows facilitate new peer-to-peer collaboration opportunities, enable real-time comparison of work-in-progress design files, assist in making more informed decisions, simplify collaboration with other designers and project stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of more assured designs.

Synchronize iTwin Projects with ProjectWise Drive and collaborate with team members

MicroStation’s new iTwin-enabled workflows require a license to ProjectWise and ProjectWise Drive must be configured to enable the new Collaboration Ribbon. If you are a MicroStation user who does not currently utilize ProjectWise, you are eligible to participate in the Technology Preview. Here’s how to get started:

  • Step 1: Download MicroStation 2024
  • Step 2: Enter your details in the form below to see if you’re eligible.
  • Step 3: If approved, your organization will be granted a 30-day evaluation of ProjectWise to experience the new workflows. Your account administrator will receive instructions in an email to grant the evaluations of ProjectWise. Once your administrator has granted you access, you will be sent a separate email with instructions to get started.
  • Step 4: Start Collaborating!*
