With many U.K. water companies needing to upgrade their existing assets to meet new, stringent requirements to reduce phosphorus being released into waterways, Mott MacDonald identified an opportunity to standardize phosphorus removal schemes for 100 projects across their seven water clients. The large project scale presented data sharing, coordination, and standardization challenges. They realized that they needed an integrated digital platform to develop a component library that could be used to standardize design and delivery for all removal schemes across multiple client frameworks.
Mott MacDonald identified their industry-leading BIM library, Moata Intelligent Content, powered by Bentley’s ProjectWise Component Center, as the digital solution to collect standard components from their supply chain and produce a standardized parametric model that was made available across their client framework. The platform’s parametric functionality improved efficiencies and facilitated repeatable design and construction, saving 13,600 hours and over GBP 3.7 million in total costs. Successful completion of the removal schemes will have significant positive impacts on the local communities, environment, and sustainability, improving water quality and protecting habitats and ecosystems.
